Ty Allen Wigginton is a professional baseball player in the Major League Baseball. He was born on October 11, 1977 in San Diego, California. Ty is known as a utility player being an infielder and an outfielder during his career. He attended high school at Chula Vista High School in Chula Vista, California and was a letterman in baseball and football. He went to the University of North Carolina at Asheville and played there for three years from 1996-1998. Ty still holds the record for most home runs in a single game, most runs in the entire season, and most doubles in a season. He was the only UNC Asheville baseball player to have played in the major leagues. In May 16, 2002 he made his Major League debut as the third baseman for the New York Mets. He had a promising rookie season averaging .302 batting, .354 on base percentage, .526 slugging percentage and 116 at-bats. On July 30, 2004 he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates. He started as the third base for the Pirates in 2005 but struggled and demoted to the minor league. Ty signed the contract with the Tampa Bay Devils and they eventually traded him to the Houston Astros in exchange with Dan Wheeler. On December 12, 2008 the Astros failed to tender a contract for Wigginton thus he became a free-agent. On February 10, 2009 he was signed by the Baltimore Orioles for a two-year contract.
