Born on December 18, 1953 in Lompoc, California, Roy Lee Howell is a former professional baseball player who appeared in the Major League Baseball. He batted with his left hand and threw with his right and began to play professionally in 1972. He was selected by the Texas Rangers in the first round of the 1972 Major League Baseball amateur draft and made his first MLB appearance on September 9, 1974. Listed at 6 ft. 1 in. and with a recorded weight of 190 lbs., he played as a third baseman in his entire baseball career and played for two other teams aside from the Texas Rangers. On May 9, 1977, he was traded by the Rangers to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Steve Hargan and Jim Mason. In 1980, Howell went to free agency until he was signed by the Milwaukee Brewers as a free agent on December 20, 1980. In 1984, he was released by the Milwaukee Brewers and was signed again by the San Francisco Giants before the beginning of the 1985 season. Howell was included among the reserves for the 1978 American League All-Star Team in 1978. After his final Major League Baseball appearance on September 29, 1984, he was released by the Milwaukee Brewers. He played 1112 games in his eleven-season career and has scored 80 home runs.
