He graduated high school at Miami Sunset Senior High School and attended the Miami-Dade Community College where he was a baseball varsity athlete. He was included in the All-American Conference selection in college. He started his professional career in 1992 when he was picked by the Seattle Marinera in the 1992 Major League Baseball Draft in the 36th round.
