A retired professional ice hockey player is Michael Ricci who was born on October 27, 1971 in Scarborough, Ontario. His father (Mario) was a professional soccer player in Italy before they moved to Canada. He went to Maximilian Catholic School and played in the former Metro Toronto Hockey League which is now Toronto Hockey League. While growing up, he was a talented soccer player who played for the Scarborough Blues program that will lead to a solid international career for him. He was picked after a strong season with the Toronto Marlboros Bantams in the second round of the Ontario Hockey League's Peterborough Petes in 1987. Mike Ricci shoots left and plays as centre in ice hockey when drafted 4th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in NHL Entry draft in 1990. He was traded to Quebec Nordiques after spending 2 years with Philadelphia Flyers in 1992. He played well and reached high scores in his next seasons with the Nordiques in 1993 and 1994. Following the franchises relocation from Quebec, Ricci won a Stanley cup after moving to Colorado Avalanche in 1996. From Avalanche to San Jose Sharks, he scored 5 goals and became an elite centreman with the Sharks in 1997. Ricci was the Shark's pride when they made its 1st trip to the Western Conference Final in 2004. He changed his uniform number to 40 in honor of NFL player Pat Tillman who died in action while in the U.S. army in 2005.
