Born on May 21, 1960 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Kent Allen Hrbek is a former Major League Baseball athlete who was known by the nickname “Herbie”. A left handed-batter, he had his major league debut on August 24, 1981 when he hit a winning home run against the New York Rangers. In his rookie year in 1982, he was selected to the All-Star team and made .301 batting average and hit 23 home runs with 92 runs batted in. He got the second highest votes for the Rookie of the Year voting in the American League which was won by Cal Ripken, Jr. Hrbek recorded his career-high homeruns in the 1978 season where he hit 34. This helped his then team, Minnesota Twins, to bag the American League West championship. In his play in the World Series, he managed to hit a Grand Slam which made his team win the championship and has helped his other MLB teams to other championship games. When the Minnesota Twins set up their Minnesota Twins Hall of Fame, Hrbek was one of the initial players named for the recognition.
