John Henry Johnson was born on November 24, 1929 in Waterproof, Tensas Parish, Louisiana. He is a retired professional football player who appeared as a fullback in the National Football League. He was a college football varsity athlete in Saint Mary's College of California and alternately in Arizona State University. A member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., he made his professional football debut in 1954 for the San Francisco 49ers. He was selected by the 49ers in the second round of the 1953 NFL amateur Draft as an 18th overall pick. He also played for other National Football League teams including the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Detroit Lions. Johnson also appeared in the Canadian Football League where he played for the Calgary Stampeders. He made appearances in the American Football League for the Houston Oilers in the 1966 season. He was included in the Pro Bowl selection four times in 1954, 1962, 1963 and in 1964 seasons and likewise played for the All-Pro in 1954 and in 1962. Because of his achievements in the field of professional football, he was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987.
