Gerald Gallant is retired professional hockey player. He is currently serving as the coach for the Saint John Sea Dogs in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He appeared in the NHL from 1984 to 1995. He was selected by the Detroit Red Wings during the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. He played for both the Red Wings and the Tampa Bay Lightning of the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference. Gallant was a left-winger for both teams. After appearing in 615 games and made 211 goals in total. He was also able to appear in a number of playoffs and made 18 playoff goals in all. Gallant only stood 5'10” and weighed 180 lbs but despite his small stature, he was a reliable power forward while playing for the Red Wings. He was named an alternate captain together with Bob Probert, Rick Zombo or Steve Chiasson. During the 1998-89 NHL season, he was named into the second team of the NHL All-Star game. Gallant became the head coach for the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2003 to 2006. He was also named assistant coach for the New York Islanders in 2007 and then the Saint John Sea Dogs in 2009 where he helped the team reach their first President's Cup.
