Born in Temiscaming, Quebec, Gaston Gingras is a retired professional hockey player in the National Hockey League. Gingras was a defenseman and played in the league for a total of 10 seasons. Before making the jump to the NHL, Gingras played in the Ontario Hockey League for the Kitchener Rangers and then the Hamilton Fincups. Gingras joined the World Hockey Association in 1978 and played for the Birmingham Bulls. During his stay in the WHA, the league decided to form a merger with the NHL. Gingras participated in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft and was selected by the Montreal Canadiens. He first played for the Scotia Voyageurs in the American Hockey League before being called up to the NHL in 1979. In 1984, he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs and was optioned to the St. Catharines Saints of the AHL before being traded to the Sherbrooke Canadiens. Gingras, together with Patrick Royand Brian Skrudland, went on to win the Calder Cup. Gingras was part of the 1985 Montreal Canadiens team that beat the Calgary Flames to win the Stanley Cup.
