Gerard Garrison Hearst is a retired professional football player who played in the National Football League as a running back. He is a graduate of Lincoln County High School in Georgia where he became a popular running back. He went to University of Georgia in college and became a known football athlete who led the nation in number of touchdowns during his third year. He was an SEC Player of the Year awardee in 1992 and ESPY's Outstanding Collegiate Athlete. He entered professional football in 1993 after being drafted by the Arizona Cardinals. Although he was not regularly included in games during the first seasons, he became the 1995 Comeback Player of the Year award after he made 1,070 rushing yards. That was also his last year with the Cardinals as he was traded to the Cincinnati Bengals afterwards. After one season with the Bengals, he was transferred to the San Francisco 49ers where he had his best playing years. His initial year with the 49ers was remarkable as he made 1,019 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns. His rushing yards was the third highest in NFL that year and he has established a franchise record for most rushes. He made several other records while with the 49ers and reviews say he indeed showed his best with the team. He had a foot injury but was able to play again in 2001 earning another NFL Comeback Player of the Year award.
