Eric John Weinrich is presently an assistant coach of the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League. He spent his college hockey at the University of Maine. He was a former American ice hockey defenseman who played for a couple of ice hockey teams. From 1988 to 2006, he played 1,157 career NHL games, scoring 70 goals and 318 assists for 388 points. Weinrich's professional career started when he was selected by the New Jersey Devils 32nd overall in the NHL Draft in 1985. In college, he was named NCAA East 2nd Team All-American in the 1986- 1987 season and left the next season to play for the United States National Team. He played for the Devils' American Hockey League developmental affiliate team, the Utica Devils, in 1988, 1989 and 1990 seasons. At the end of the 1990 season, he won the Eddie Shore Award and played full time with the NJ Devils. In that season, he got the NHL All-Rookie Team award but was traded to the Hartford Whalers. He spent over a season with the Whalers and later on moved to Chicago Blackhawks. He played several season with the Hawks and was traded to Montreal Canadiens then to Boston Bruins afterwards. He signed as a free agent with Philadelphia Flyers in 2001. Shortly after, he was traded with St. Louis Blues and moved to his very last NHL team, the Vancouver Canucks in 2005. He retired on August 07, 2006 and afterwards signed a contract to be an assistant coach for the Portland Pirates.
