Denis Potvin is a retired professional hockey player who is currently working as a team captain in the National Hockey League. He had his junior hockey experience with the Ottawa 67s was given a shot to play in the National Hockey League after he joined the National Hockey League Amateur Draft in 1973. He was chosen to play for the New York Islanders which trusted that Potvin will do much for the team. He had his first season in the national league in 1973-1974 and immediately got the like of many hockey fans because of his great plays. He was given the Calder Memorial Trophy which is given to players who are considered as the best rookie of the season. After his very promising rookie year, he went on to play well as a defenceman, earning him the James Norris Memorial Trophy in the 1975 to 1976 season and the 1977 to 1979 seasons. He has appeared for the team during their Canada Cup experience in 1976 and sources say he had his best offensive season in 1979. In one season, he was able to obtain 30 goals and scored 100 points. He was then offered to work as a team captain for the team and soon retired from professional playing. He led the team to their very first Stanley Cup in the 1979 to 1980 season.
