Dubbed as “The Hawk” Connie Hawkins is a retired professional basketball player. He played for both the American Basketball Association and also for the National Basketball Association. Hawkins was born in Brooklyn, New York and was famous as a New York City playground player most specifically Rucker Park. Hawkins waited until he was in junior year before he decided to play in his high school's varsity team. He helped the Boys High claim the 1959 PSAL title. During his last year of playing high school basketball, Hawkins was average 25.5 ppg and was even able to score 60 points in one particular game. He led the Boys into a second PSAL title that year before agreeing to study at the University of Iowa. Hawkins was also named as an MVP. He was allowed to play in the NBA after the 1968 season following a lawsuit that he filed and was able to play for the Phoenix Suns. He was named as an All-Star during the 1970-73 seasons.
