Chris Weinke is a retired American professional football player. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota and took his college education at the Florida State University where was an award winning football athlete during his college career winning three awards in 2000; the Johnny Unitas Award, Davey O'Brien Award and the Heisman Trophy. Throughout his seven season career from 2001 to 2007 in the National Football League, Weinke played as quarterback for two teams; the Carolina Panthers and the San Francisco 49ers. Weinke is 6 ft. 4 in. and 235 lbs. He began his professional football career after he was drafted by the Carolina Panthers during the 2001 NFL Draft where he was the fourth round pick of the team. In the 2001 seasons, Weinke was the quarterback starter when the Panthers finished with a 1-15 record, in which they won their first game, but lost the remaining fifteen games. After the 2001 season, Weinke became the Panthers backup quarterback and is seldom used in action until 2005 when quarterback starter Jake Delhomme went down due to an injury against the Detroit Lions. In that game Weinke threw a touchdown pass to Ricky Proehl, giving the Panthers the 21–20 win against the Lions. On December 12, 2007, Weinke signed with the San Francisco 49ers and had his final game with the team in the following season.
