Catfish Hunter Jerseys

James Augustus Hunter is a retired Major League Baseball player who is known by the nickname “Catfish”. Born on April 8, 1946 in Hertford, North Carolina, he excelled in both football and baseball as a young man and was a prospect of many baseball teams. However, Hunter was involved in a hunting accident which caused the loss of one of his toes and made other baseball apparel scouts uninterested with him; only one team dared to sign him up and that was the Kansas City Athletics. The team's owner, Charles Finley, gave him the nickname Catfish. He showed impressive plays while with the team and was included to the American League All-Star team. The team was then changed to Oakland Athletics. According to reviews, Hunter was able to pitch the first ever perfect game in the American League. In 1974, he was awarded as the Pitcher of the Year by The Sporting News and the Cy Young Award of the American League. He recorded 25-12 and posted a 2.49 batting average. He then played for the New York Yankees in 1975 after he had a contract conflict with Charles Finley of the Oakland Athletics. While with the Yankees, he led the league in wins and in number of innings pitched and had made several other records. In 1987, as tribute to his great contributions to the baseball league, he was named to the National League Hall of Fame.
