John Aloysius Hassett, famously known as “Buddy Hassett”, was born on September 5, 1911 in New York, New York. He was a former Major Baseball League player who spent the 1936 to 1942 seasons in the league. He was a left-handed batter and thrower and played professionally as a first base. Hassett attended college in Manhattan College. He made his first Major Baseball League appearance on April 14, 1936 for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He also became part of several other teams in the league including the Boston Braves and the Brooklyn Dodgers. He joined the Boston Braves in 1938 and was released by the team which is also called the Boston Bees in 1941. After his stint with the Boston bees, he moved to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1936 and spent two years with the team. He became part of the New York Yankees in 1942. The New York Yankees released him on May 1, 1946. He made his final appearance in the Major Baseball League on September 27, 1942 for the New York Yankees. In his entire playing career, Buddy Hassett recorded a .292 batting average, with 12 home runs and made 343 runs batted in. Buddy Hassett died on August 23, 1977 at the age of 85 years old and his remains were buried at Garden of memories in Washington.
