Brian Lee Vickers is the youngest champion in any of NASCAR 's three top- tier series. Born on October 24, 1983 in Thomasville, North Carolina, he was the champion for 2003 Nationwide Series. He drives for Team Red Bull in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series but is not racing his normal ride for the rest of 2010 because of a medical issue. Vickers began riding go- karts in 1994 and won eighty races in the World Karting Association and three championships, including one against three- time winner Mike Schwartz over three years. In 1999, he competed in NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series then moved to USAR ProCup where he won Rookie of the Year and two more races in 2000. He made his Nationwide Series debut at the GNC Live Well 250 in the #29 owned by his father, Clyde Vickers. But because of lack of funds for his family- owned team, Vickers was hired to replace Ricky Hendrick in the #5 GMAC Chevrolet owned by the Hendrick Motorsports. It was in 2003 that Vickers had his best statistics by far but this victory was marred due to some misunderstandings in the Hendrick Motorsports camp. By 2007, he announced that he would be driving for the then new Team Red Bull team. The conflicts within the Hendrick Motorsports camp were resolved amicably, with Vickers coming to congratulate Johnson and Johnson giving him a hug when Johnson won the Nextel Cup championship at the Ford 400. Vickers won several races for Team Red Bull but on May 13, 2010 announced that he will not be entering the Autism Speaks 400 at the Dover International Speedway because of undisclosed medical condition, which later news revealed as blood clotting in the legs and his lungs.
