Bill Wight is a former American pro baseball player who played as pitcher for the New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox , Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians, Baltimore Orioles, Cincinnati Reds and the St. Louis Cardinals in the Major League Baseball throughout his twelve season career. Wight goes by the nickname of “Lefty” because he batted and threw left handed was born on April 12, 1922 in Rio Vista, California. He studied high school when he attended McClymonds High School in Oakland, California. Wight, who stands 6 ft. 1 in and weighs in at 180 lbs., began his pro baseball career after he was signed by the New York Yankees in 1941 as amateur free agent. Before he made his way up the major league ladder, Wight first made a few stints for the Yankees' affiliates in the minor leagues. Wight made his major league debut on April 17, 1946 after he was called out from the minors by the Yankees. He had his final game with the St. Louis Cardinals on September 21, 1958. Throughout his career, Wight retired with over 574 strikeouts in 347 games he participated, including 198 starts. Bill Wight passed away at the age of 85 on May 17, 2007 in his home in Mount Shasta, California.
