Nicknamed “Benny”, he started his NHL career with the Buffalo Sabres which drafted him in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft as a 35ht overall pick in the second round. Before he appeared in NHL games, he played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for the team Saint-Jean Castors. He also played for the Rochester Americans, which is the American Hockey League affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres. He had his National Hockey League debut season in the 1987-1988 seasons. He played for the Buffalo Sabres until the 1991-1992 seasons. He was traded to the New York Islanders with Pierre Turgeon and six other players. According to sources, his stint with the New York Islanders was the best of his career. With the Islanders, he made 105 goals in more than three seasons. After playing for the Islanders, he joined the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Tampa Bay Lightning. He also played for the Boston Bruins and the Phoenix Cayotes. He had three separate stints with the Dallas Stars and in 2001-2002 seasons, he joined the Washington Capitals. He played 863 games in his entire NHL career and has bagged one Stanley Cup in 1999.
