Major League Baseball utility infielder, Andy Phillips plays for the famous team the New York Yankees. He was born on April 6, 1977 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and he was raised in Demopolis, Alabama. It is where he played baseball for Demopolis Academy which is now called West Alabama Preparatory Academy. Phillips was first drafted as a shortstop by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 41st round of the 1995 draft when he was in his fourth year. He has played at the same rank with the New York Yankees in the 7th round of the 1999 draft where he was a college graduate of University of Alabama. This led him to sign with the Yankees but he did not reach the Major Leagues not until a call-up session towards the end of 2004 season. He had his Major League debut on September 2004. Phillips is among the four players to home in his first AB together with Marcus Thames, Bubba Crosby, and Todd Zeile. He also became the 21st player in Major League to hit a home run on the first pitch of the league. It was in 2004 when he received the Yankees' Kevin Lawn “Minor-League Player of the Year” Award. He was also voted as the Most Valuable Player of the International League All Star Game after hitting a 10th inning in a walk-off home run. Phillips has also earned the James P. Dawson Award as the Yankees' most outstanding rookie in the spring training.
