Allan Houston is a retired professional basketball player. Houston played in the National Basketball Association as well as in international events for the US National Team. Presently, Houston is serving as the New York Knicks Assistant President of Basketball Operations. Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Houston attended Ballard High School and played for the team. He was part of the Ballard team that went all the way to the 1988 Kentucky State Championships and won the event. Houston decided to go to the University of Tennessee where his father was the coach. He was able to graduate in 1993 and is the top scorer in the entire history of the school. After entering the 1993 NBA draft, Houston became a first round pick by the Detroit Pistons. During his first season in the league, Houston was able to come up with 14.5 points which improved into 19.7 points in the succeeding seasons. After gaining free agency in 1996, Houston decided to sign with the New York Knicks and earned a starting job with the team during the 1996 season. While playing for the Knicks, Houston was named into two All-Star selections – in the 2000 and the 2001 seasons. In 2000, Houston played for the national team in the Sydney Olympics and won the gold.
