Albert Leonard Rosen is a retired Major League Baseball player from Spartanburg, South Carolina. Nicknamed are “Al”, “Flip”, and “Hebrew Hammer”, he threw and batted right- handed. He enlisted for the World War II and played in the minor leagues upon his return. Rosen became famous in the minor leagues and even won the Rookie of the Year award for Triple A- Kansas City in the American Association. He made his major league debut on September 10, 1947 for the then Oklahoma City Indians against the New York Yankees . In 1948, he was part of the Indians team that won the World Series against the Boston Braves. He was a 4- time All- Star Selection, and has won the American League Most Valuable Player award in 1953. His last game as a player was on September 30, 1956 against the Detroit Tigers before he finally retired because of injuries. Upon retirement, he became a stockbroker and returned to the MLB as an executive. He worked as president and chief operating officer for the Yankees, the Astros, and then served as president and general manager for the Giants. It was with him that the San Francisco Giants came from a disappointing last place to the National League West champions in 1985 and the National League Pennant in 1987. Overall, Rosen has a .285 batting average with 192 home runs and 717 runs batted in.
